Following the route of the GSC, the duo will sail double handed from A Coruna, Spain around Cape of Good Hope and Cape Leeuwin to Sydney, Australia. The trip involve a brief stop in Cape Town to allow for a break for the holidays.
As part of this double-handed journey from Europe to Australia, Tucker will sail alongside renowned solo sailor Cole Brauer, who will mentor her in solo offshore sailing, navigation, and boat handling. This voyage, crucial for both delivering the boat and preparing Tucker for the GSC 2027, marks a significant milestone in her campaign to foster a supportive community for women in sailing.
Brauer, a professional sailor with over a decade of offshore racing experience, gained international recognition through her success in the GSC. Her experience in solo navigation and resilience in ocean challenges have made her an inspirational figure for women in the sport. Through her mentorship of Tucker, Brauer exemplifies the belief that when women lift each other up, they achieve the extraordinary, reinforcing the powerful spirit of women supporting women in the sailing community.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to learn from someone as accomplished as Cole,” said Tucker. “This journey is crucial not only as preparation for the Global Solo Challenge, but also as the first step in bringing First Light home to Australia. It perfectly aligns with Za Ocean Racing's mission to encourage women to take bold steps in pursuing their dreams and to explore the boundaries of what is possible.”
“First Light is more than a boat—it’s a symbol of what women can achieve when we work together,” Tucker explained. “In line with Za Ocean Racing's mission, I want to help create more opportunities for women in sailing, and this campaign is the perfect platform to drive that change.”
Tucker’s journey will begin later this year, with the Europe-to-Australia passage marking the delivery of First Light to its new home in Australia.
